Abracadabra Design Studio, commissioned by GEM Report Team to redesign the visual identity of the latter, arranged a one day workshop with the team to discuss the creative and technical requirements of the project. The two-session workshop took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on September 10th 2015. The areas of redesign encompass a logo, a report cover and an internal design scheme. The main objective of this workshop was to explore the different characteristics, stages, audiences, values and tools of the GEM Report and its supplementary documents, in order to better understand the project and its scope. The collaborative activities developed during the workshop were based on four main areas defined as follows: report objectives and process definition; audience mapping; user interaction scheme; design requirements definition. The resoulting document is a summary of these activities and aims to synthesize the information obtained in order to underscore the principal lines and touchpoints for the development of the design. It is a brief diagnosis of what was said, but also what was felt during the discussion between team members and Abracadabra staff. Based on the methodology of user-center design this approach allowed us to define the opportunities and ensure that we understand the objectives and threats of the redesign. It should be clarified that the results are based on qualitative investigation, performed during the workshop and during the revision of accessible documents linked with the report itself, and therefore the analysis presented on following pages are insights perceived by the Abracadabra Design Studio team. At the same time, this workshop summary offers an external point of view for the GEM Report Team, pointing out some ambiguous or undefined areas of visual id entity, and offering some questions regarding future communication strategies.
